Not the last pandemic: Important McKinsey report

“The economic disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic could cost between $9 trillion and $33 trillion—many times more than the projected cost of preventing future pandemics. We have estimated that spending $70 billion to $120 billion over the next two years and $20 billion to $40 billion annually after that could substantially reduce the likelihood of future pandemics.”

That’s the conclusion of “Not the last pandemic: Investing now to reimagine public-health systems” the latest Insights by McKinsey.

The COVID-19 pandemic was anticipated in “Clade X” a simulation held by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, in May 2018. Clade X simulated a bioweapon that, over 20 months, killed 150 million worldwide. It demonstrated just how unprepared America was for a pandemic.
